About This Event

The Driving Force of Pleasure

“This immense structure of pleasure is one of the factors of our consciousness. Perhaps it may be one of the major factors. So why? You can’t answer, not a verbal answer. Observing this fact of pleasure – why we are asking has man pursued it for millions of years? Which is you!”  -Krishnamurti

Pleasure seeking seems to be a major driving force in our everyday existence and an ever growing value in the modern world. During our weekend intensive we propose a deep dive into this issue of pleasure and how increasingly bound we are to it, as well as propelled by it. Can we be free of its restless grip? Or has it become part of who we are; acting as an automatic shield to the pain and fear we are impelled inwardly to avoid?

Is it possible for us to navigate beyond the “verbal answer”? Are the various classifications and descriptions of pleasure-seeking the actual movement of it?

Can we as a group effectively ask questions we have not already asked? Can we observe directly? Can there be an uncovering and a gathering of new information as we penetrate into this whole shared question together? In fact, is the process of direct investigation in itself, a stepping beyond the comforts of self control and fixed thinking?

A question so pivotal to human consciousness may demand in effect we put aside the warm blankets of comfortable discussion (the pleasures of which we frequently pursue!). Can we’ve venture into a more immediate, fully aware, untethered and challenging inquiry together? Is that possible?

Facilitator
Jackie McInley founded and ran an independent Krishnamurti centre called Open Door in Southern France from 2004 until 2013 – hosting monthly inquiry weekends and annual international gatherings in French and English. She organized an experimental David Bohm bi-monthly dialogue meeting for 4 years in a local market town, and later a Krishnamurti dialogue group in the city of Toulouse.

A former self-employed, foreign language and theatre teacher by profession (schools, higher education and business), she now organises and facilitates inquiry events, gatherings and retreats in a variety of countries and cultures around the world. She also visits, facilitates dialogues and gives talks in the Krishnamurti Foundations, centres & schools in USA, UK and India.

Jackie does not follow any particular spiritual teaching but is deeply interested in the investigative talks & dialogues of J.Krishnamurti as a mirror and friend to her own constant inner inquiry.
