About This Event

There is something to nothingness, a swift cool breeze of freedom flowing like a vital breath, effortless, happy… do we all sense it, in little glimpses? Do we see that it is right and then wonder how to get back to that space? Can we live in that space?

“You must easily put aside all the pleasurable memories and images, so that your mind is free, uncontaminated, for the real thing… Every experience, every thought must end each day, each minute, as it arises, so that the mind does not put out roots into the future. This is really important, for this is true freedom.” – K, Happy is the one who is nothing, p.47

We will use some of the letters from this invaluable little book, Happy is the one who is nothing, to stimulate our discussions: “It is astonishing to have a still and very calm mind, without a single wave of thought. Of course, the stillness of a dead mind is not a calm mind. The mind can be made to be still by the action of will, but can it ever be profoundly, right through its whole being, silent? In that state, all consciousness as knowing and recognizing ceases. The instinctual pursuit of the mind, memory, has come to an end… for this process to come to an end is like dying to everything. One does not want to die, and so there is an unconscious struggle going on, and this struggle is called life.” – K, p. 53

We will meet each day for a 3-hour session that will include but not be limited to discussion/dialogue, some short video clips and short excerpts from texts.

Facilitator John Duncan’s interaction with Krishnamurti and his teachings began in 1984 when he saw public talks in Ojai. From then on he attended many dialogue retreats and events at the foundation until he moved to Ojai in 1999 and began working at the KFA. His work as proofreader for the Krishnamurti Publications was an invaluable scholarship in which he interacted with Krishanmurti talks and dialogues spanning over six decades of Krishnamurti’s teaching life, including the 17 volumes of the Collected Works. He has been leading dialogues on Tuesdays and Saturdays for several years and looks forward to introducing Krishnamurti and his teachings in a clear and dynamic fashion.
