We have redesigned the homepage of Kinfonet to serve as a portal to the different sections and to feature the latest additions and activities on the site. At a glance, you can now see latest events, articles, excerpts, member activity and other changing details.
Yet the homepage is quietly dominated by the "Quote of the Day", displayed on the backdrop of a painting by Vilhelm Hammershøi (1864 - 1913), which was a spontaneous, last minute addition. The Danish painter is renowned for his haunting, monochromatic interiors that are only occasionally graced by a solitary figure.
What struck us when we started experimenting with this page layout was how the painting seemed to underscore the spirit of the daily quote in an almost uncanny way. Maybe it is because the woman in the painting is captured with her back to us that makes it so malleable to interpretation. But maybe it is the lack of detracting personal detail that allows her humanity to shine through, reflecting the sameness of human consciousness beyond superficial differences.
